Rowland Lucas takes top spot at Viaduct Fishery qualifier

Heavy rain in the early hours of the morning soon turned to fine sunshine for the 130 anglers taking part in this Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Viaduct Fishery, Somerset on Saturday 11th April 2015.

In a very close match, honours went to Rowland Lucas, a miner by trade of Frome, Somerset, fishing for Wiltshire Angling. Viaduct is a fishery that Rowland knows well, and that knowledge paid dividends when he drew peg 99. Fishing straight bomb with a long hook length to a PR38 size 16 hook. Rowland used double 11 mm pellets to take carp to 16 lbs to make up his winning weight of 150 lbs.

Lee Farmer finished a close second with 146.01 lbs fishing for Chiltern Baits. Lee fished the long pole down the bank with banded pellet and paste.

Local Angler Steve Jackson fishing under the Garbolino banner came third with 139 lbs of carp to 14 lbs. Steve used straight bomb switching between pellet and meat.

Jonathan Harvey came forth with 138 lbs 14 ozs, fishing for Preston Innovations.  Jonathan fished up in the water with the pellet waggler for this fine weight.

Gerry Folley a Design Engineer of Oxford came fifth, again straight lead was the method fishing banded pellet.  Gerry took fish to 12 lbs for a total weight of 137 lbs 08 ozs Gerry had the misfortune towards the end of the match when a very large carp he had just landed flipped out of this landing net.

The next Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier of 2015 heads to Messingham Sands, North Lincolnshire on Saturday 18th April.
