2013 Champ Hughes Qualifies Again

There has been more Fish’O’Mania qualifying action across England with three more anglers set to take their place in the starting line-up for the grand final at Cudmore in July. Following the success of two-time champion Matt Hall in the first heat at the start of April, another previous Fish’O’Mania titleist won through as Jamie Hughes took the honours at Boldings.

The 32 year-old from the Wirral was a runaway Fish’O’Mania winner back in 2013, and he will now have the opportunity to become only the second angler ever to win the event twice. His 102 lbs 14 oz bag was 4 ½ pounds clear of his nearest rival, Stephen Openshaw.

Earlier on 16th May, Eddie Green from Worthing, West Sussex secured his final berth with a winning weight of 146 lbs 3 oz at Barford Lakes near Norwich. That was 5 lbs better than second placed Warren Martin, a Fish’O’Mania champion in 2012.

Another Sussex man took the honours at Colemans Cottage at Witham in Essex. Wayne Taylor (Hastings) weighed in with 93 lbs dead to get the better of Gary Bell, with just a single pound separating them. Wayne moves forward to the Grand Final on July 18th and a shot at the £30,000 top prize.

With 12 of the 16 qualifying events completed, the next heat takes place Saturday 13th at Woodlands Lakes at Thirsk in Yorkshire.
